It appears what teachers have been saying the past few years about No Child Left Behind may have been heard…FIX IT!
A new federal bill was signed in December, 2015. It is called ESSA…Every Student Succeeds Act. Educators and families worked together to create a better law that truly focuses on meeting needs of every student in this country.
Could it be that ESSA will actually allow teachers more involvement in developing what students need? Could it be that finally parents and community members respect that there are many teachers who know their students and have expertise when it comes to providing learning activities that work? Could it be that NCLB is finally gone and replaced with a law that promotes learning and creative thinking rather than squelching it and creating a robotic group of students?
Teachers…make sure you are educated about ESSA and are involved as it is implemented.
